Make that end of the week. But have fun considering who was really behind every terrible event all along
Essentially, Gamzee is the 8ig 8ad.
He always has been.
And I’ll write up the full theory post this weekend.
Apologies for the veritable death of this blog, but I’m starting to get some new ideas, and I should have some theory posts up this weekend.
Posted to the wrong blog, thank you mobile
Q:When Jake sends John the weapons with the bunny, the Zylihoo Hammer is the same as the one used by Gamzee? And how did Dave get the Katana that was there?
The Warhammer of Zillyhoo’s timeline has a few gaps in it, actually. We still haven’t really seen where Jake got any of those weapons from in the first place, but it’s possible that the one he sent to John is the same one created during the Trickster Mode shenanigans. How and when he would send it back to himself on Earth is unclear, but I can say one thing: it’s pretty unlikely Gamzee had the same one. That would require the hammer to somehow make it into the trolls’ session somewhere along its timeline, and I don’t see where it happened.
If it did originate from Trickster Mode, its timeline is essentially Trickster Mode ==> Sent back to Jake on Earth ==> Sent to John with the bunny ==> Used repeatedly by John for years, until he left it next to his Dad’s crashed car in a dream bubble.
So I don’t think Gamzee has the same one. If anything, through capricious means he somehow got the code and managed to alchemize it. But Gamzee’s timeline is even more of a mystery, honestly, so a lot of questions regarding him are tough to answer.
Lastly, Dave didn’t get that Katana. Dave’s Bro had the Unbreakable Katana, which Dave took after his Bro’s death. Dirk also didn’t get it from Trickster Mode, he already had its own and it said on the Trickster page where it was alchemized that it was a copy.
Q:Hi! I have a question... for the Fanadventure I'm doing with a few friends, we've got a Page of Doom, a Witch of Time, a Knight of Space, a Sylph of Heart, and a Seer of Void. How would that go over, do you think?
The story is up to you to decide! However, I can lay out some tentative definitions of how each of these titles works. Please keep in mind that titles are not entirely definitive to how a person will act, and how they’re utilized is greatly affected by the personality of the character (for example, a player other than Vriska with a Thief of Light title might have acted more like reconnaissance, operating more on the “knowledge” part of Light than “luck and fortune.” Although, that might be more of a Rogue thing because it applies to working for the team other than oneself…. anyway!).
First thing to note, it looks like you have Time and Space players, which means the session isn’t inherently doomed to failure. And you also have a Knight! While not entirely clear if it applies to all cases, and if they’re always necessary, they do tend to help the Space players with frog breeding.
That being said, I suppose I’ll start off with the first title. It’s certainly an interesting one, and one I’ve speculated on before due to its odd position. They would apparently be aiding themselves with frog breeding, which would either mean they’re naturally exceptional at that task, or it’s a huge responsibility to handle on one’s own. Although, one might expect that their friends would offer to help out regardless. As far as actual powers: Knights tend to be powerful warriors that exploit their Aspect as a weapon, so one might expect a Knight of Space to fight similarly to Dave: using teleportation powers or mini-wormholes to aid them during a fight. It has potentially very scary applications, as “Space” as an Aspect is broadly defined, and leaves room for some very overpowered feats.
Moving on to the Time player… Witches haven’t been very well-defined, but evidence suggests they might augment or manipulate their Aspect. Feferi extended Life by creating the dream bubbles, as well as reviving WV. Jade was able to expand and shrink planets. One could speculate that a Witch of Time could bend timelines to their will, possibly giving themselves powers of super speed through slowing time around them, extending the timeframe of the Reckoning, etc. It’s worth noting that Damara was a Witch of Time, and Aranea stated that after she became “unhinged”, she would “ar8itrarily [show] up at key moments throughout the timeline to sa8otage [them].” In other words, this would not be a good antagonistic character to have against you.
Speaking of which, the Page of Doom is potentially extremely dangerous, but also potentially extremely helpful. One can guess from the examples of Sollux, Mituna, and even the Psiioniic that Doom (being the antithesis of Life, for one thing) deals heavily with death, and affecting reality through sacrifice. Alternatively, it could additionally serve as an aspect that also represents literal Doom, causing circumstances to take a turn for the worst. Not much is known about Pages, other than they learn very slow but have massive potential once they reach that point. So basically, a Page of Doom would either doom the session to hell, or save an impossible situation through sacrifice. (Also of note: Sollux and Mituna having two dream selves might not be exclusive to them and their duality gag. While there’s no canonical word either way on the reason for it, some speculate that all Doom players have two dream selves, due to the Aspect dealing so heavily with death and sacrifice.)
If the Page of Doom or Witch of Time should take a corrupt turn, this is where your Sylph of Heart might come in handy. We know from Calliope’s statements to Dirk that Heart essentially represent’s one’s soul, and Sylphs are a healer class. This reasonably leads one to conclude that they would be able to heal any corruptions in one’s soul. Ostensibly it could have more applications, but neither of the two have been explained too in-depth, so it’s hard for me to say past that. As an afterthought, it’s possible that a Sylph of Heart might be able to heal the injuries of ghosts, such as Meulin and Mituna, though I’m hesitant to put my full support behind that idea.
Finally, the Seer of Void. A lot of people think Void is a limiting Aspect, representing “nothingness” and possibly being useless in some situations, but I would have to disagree on principle. Void represents a number of important things, from the obfuscation (hiding) of information to the Furthest Ring and the Horrorterrors themselves. Seers are a passive class that essentially understand their Aspect comprehensively, and Doc Scratch once stated that they will keep their party from making grave mistakes. The applications of a Seer of Void are very exciting, as they might be able to view information carefully hidden from them (although this might be more the role of a Mage, their suspected active counterpart), and perhaps even more intriguing, they could have extensive knowledge of the Furthest Ring or even the Horrorterrors themselves. Even if they weren’t fully, keenly aware of the Horrorterrors’ motivations (which I suspect they could be), they would at the very least be able to converse with them more effectively than most players.
Q:okay, there's something hurting me. it's odd but who cares. well, when vriska died, in her dream bubble she saw john, and john gave her a jacket, the same jacket she was wearing before die, and decides to maintain the jacket and that's why before the death she was wearing it BUT HOW SHE WAS FUCKING WEARING IT BEFORE DIE IF SHE RECEIVED AFTER DEATH
You mean this page? I see where you’re getting your idea from, but you’re kind of misunderstanding dream bubbles. When a character is within a dream bubble, the surrounding environment sometimes changes to reflect their memories, and often, whether the environment changes or not, items and other artifacts (including dead non-player beings) they remember will be present in the immediate area.
John didn’t literally give her her original jacket. He grabbed an arbitrary one from his house, and due to Vriska’s presence and memory of her jacket, the jacket object that was present happened to be her original one from before she died, ascended, or even played the game. She was just remembering it (actively or not), so it happened to be there.
Q:I believe that Hussie said something before about Prospit being passive and Derse being active. This is something seen in the human characters but with the trolls it seems reversed.
I remember something like that… He mostly hinted that there is indeed at least a loose pattern with Prospit/Derse assignment, without really giving us any hints.
If we’re talking literal activeness/passiveness as per class definitions, I made a table on the MSPA Wiki here to try to explore any correlation between titles themselves and Prospit/Derse assignment. It’s still a work in progress, to be updated with more Class and Aspect defintions, but so far the balance of passive and active classes seems relatively even on both dream planets, and while the overall implication of the titles do seem to have tendencies for good - Prospit and bad - Derse, that pattern isn’t perfect either.
It could mainly be down to personalities and have nothing to do with titles at all. Seer of Light makes no sense for Derse, for example, but Rose was a perfect match with all her Lovecraftian infatuations. On the other hand, John for example seems far more active than Dave.
We can’t even give a direct villain/good guy or happy/unhappy with life dichotomy, because there are clear outliers like Gamzee and Meulin.
So really, Prospit/Derse assignment is probably one of the toughest things in the comic to pin down. I’d say it boils down to your intuitive gut feeling on who belongs where.
Q:how do you think a session with an Heir of Doom, Mage of Time, Sylph of Breath, Witch of Hope, Page of Space, Knight of Time, and Seer of Light go?
Whoa that’s kind of a huge question and seems something more that the author of this implied narrative should answer for themselves. I can guess at how the roles would manifest, but you also have to factor in individual’s personalities and how they relate to each other.
- An Heir of Doom, as seen with Mituna, would probably make it their self-proclaimed personal responsibility to protect their teammates from any major threat, even at the cost of their own life. Alternatively, like John became a manifestation of Breath, an Heir of Doom might themselves embody everything going wrong in a session.
Before I even get to the remaining titles I’d like to point out that, like I answered in my previous ask, having two Time players might not exactly pan out well. Barring, of course, a situation like the Beta-Alpha kids’ session in Homestuck. If there was one Time player in each session it could ostensibly work. But the implication might lean towards a second scratch, if that’s even possible.
- We don’t know very much about Mages, except that they seem to be more active Seers. Judging by Sollux and Meulin, the Mage class might manifest as sharp intuition, so a Mage of Time would probably have a strong innate sense on the topic. Some examples: Unlike Dave, they probably wouldn’t need outside direction from a Mind player to organize their loops. Additionally, they might have a more crystal clear and direct sense that they’re in a doomed or otherwise non-alpha timeline, as displayed (weakly) by Dave when John randomly appeared during his and Jade’s argument.
- Sylph of Breath is hard to say…. probably some healing powers that manifest through direct breath (think healing kiss), or just the air itself? I’d imagine that overall their power would be similar to revival and healing-type Life powers. If some theorists are right about Sylph being a passive “create” class, it’s very possible they would exude a constant aura of air, though I’m not sure what that would accomplish.
- Witches, as far as I can tell, manipulate. They have a direct augmentative control over their powers. If I had to guess, I’d say they could create more possibilities for success and prosperity in a seemingly hopeless situation.
- A Page of Space, like all Pages, would have a sharp learning curve and by the end probably have extremely overpowered Space abilities. I’m not sure what, but if Jake is anything to go by one thing would probably be a massive aura which is highly protective and initially explosive (although that was probably just from Aranea ramping him up his learning curve way too fast). Properties of this aura could be space-warping/bending or possibly some Pacman-screen type edge portaling. Launch in one side, exit the other.
- A Knight of Time, as seen with Dave, would probably use time in a weaponizing fashion and, as a Knight, help with the frog breeding duties. I’m not sure there’s much more to say on their powers and how they would use them past how Dave behaves in-comic.
- A Seer of Light, as with Rose, would be able to see all of the possible paths to/against a fortuitous outcome. This was much better shown with Terezi’s view of the doomed timeline where Vriska attacked Jack, but keep in mind the timeline splits here wouldn’t be due to people’s decisions: it would be dependent on luck and fortune. You could also take Seer of Light in literal directions, the applications of which are for you to decide.
I’d like to point out that Rose is also a fantastic example that all of a character’s actions will not necessarily line up with their title. Seer is a very, very passive class, but Rose is a very active person whose game plan was “destroy everything until our session breaks,” not to even mention her Grimdark phase.
Q:what do you think about having two time players in one session? would that be fine?
In theory there shouldn’t be a problem in actually having two Time players, as it’s at least meeting the minimum requirement (given a Space player as well, of course). However, it might complicate things when it comes to the planets. I’m not sure if Skaia would allow for two different scratch constructs, and furthermore (if the denizens, at least Echidna and Hephaestus, are indeed aspect-locked), I’m not sure how well it would work for two Hephaestus’ to be asking for the use of Echidna’s forge .
I haven’t had wifi for the past few days so I didn’t even notice I had asks, because I’ve been relying on mobile data. Also I’m pretty sure asks default to private answers on mobile so I’ll have to wait a few days to answer them.
